Roon and Mandated Firewalls

Mandated Firewalls

If you’re experiencing any of the following issues:

“I can’t log into Roon, I am stuck in a login loop” or “My Tidal/Qobuz tracks are showing as unavailable” or “I can’t connect to anything in Roon”…

You may encounter these due to firewall restrictions imposed at the state or countrywide level. These restrictions can affect various aspects of Roon's functionality:

  1. Authorization and Login: Firewall settings may block Roon's ability to complete the authorization or login process, preventing users from accessing their Roon accounts. This can also result in a login loop.

  2. Communication with Roon Services: Firewalls can interfere with Roon's ability to communicate or sync with integrated services, such as streaming services (e.g., TIDAL, Qobuz, KKBox) and metadata services. This can impact the availability of tracks and Artist/Song/Album information within Roon.

We've seen the above cases happen specifically with more obscure enterprise-based networking systems and with certain country-wide firewall restrictions like the Great Firewall in China.

Maintaining a reliable online connection to these services is crucial for the proper functionality of Roon. Unfortunately, if you are affected by geographic-based firewall restrictions, these issues are beyond Roon’s ability to resolve.

What can I do about it?

If you’re experiencing the above issues, our Roon Tinkering category hosts a vibrant community of users who may have encountered similar challenges and can offer valuable insights and guidance.

Note these issues fall outside the official scope of Roon Technical Support.

Additionally, some users report that changing their VPN provider has been helpful in navigating these challenges. You can read more about their experiences here on the Roon Community site.

Note that using a VPN also falls outside the scope of Roon support.

If you are a user of China Telecom, this community thread may help you re-establish a connection.
