nugs User Guide + FAQ

Getting Started

What is nugs?

nugs is the premier destination for live music streaming, featuring the most extensive catalog of artist-official live concert recordings available anywhere. For nearly 30 years, nugs has been the trusted source for high-quality live performances, collaborating with legendary artists including Pearl Jam, Metallica, Bruce Springsteen, Billy Strings, Phish, and Goose to bring their shows directly to fans.

What makes nugs special is its commitment to capturing the magic of live music in its purest form. Every show is unique, from spontaneous jams to unexpected gems - and nugs preserves these moments so they're always within reach. New show recordings are added daily, often appearing just hours after the curtain falls, alongside archival performances from decades past.

nugs delivers premium sound quality with hi-res lossless streaming, making every performance sound as close as possible to being there. The service bridges generations of live music fans, from those who remember trading tapes to new listeners discovering their first show, all united by a love of live performance.

How does nugs work in Roon?

nugs brings an entirely new type of content to Roon: live shows. These aren't albums, they're complete concert recordings, captured as performed, with their own distinct presentation (notice the ticket-shaped artwork).

The centerpiece of the nugs catalog is their extensive (and exclusive) library of live shows from over 600 different artists. These live recordings capture the magic of live music, with audio delivered in pristine sound quality alongside notes about the concert ("cut short because of thunderstorms!"), the set breaks, and the show's venue and location. In many cases, artists will post last night's show just hours after the audience leaves.

Because most of these shows are exclusive to nugs, Roon displays the show’s metadata exactly as it appears in the nugs app: no enhancement or editing. This means new shows appear in Roon immediately, just as soon as they’re available in nugs.

You can browse nugs content from your favorite artists' pages or from the nugs tab in the sidebar. You can also find nugs content in Search, where you'll search by venue or song name rather than album titles (since shows are identified by date and location, not traditional album names).

How do I add my nugs account in Roon?

Head into your Roon Settings →Services. There, you’ll see the option to login:

Follow the prompts to open a browser window, then sign in with your nugs credentials. After completing the login, you’ll be redirected back to Roon, where you’ll see a confirmation that you’ve successfully signed in:

Which nugs features aren't yet available in Roon?

To launch our collaboration with nugs, we focused on what makes their catalog special: playing and browsing live shows from over 600 artists, integrated right into Roon's browsing experience.

For now, Roon's support for nugs does not yet include:
  • Live Streams + Video
  • Library integration: Favoriting shows, adding shows to your Roon library, or browsing / updating nugs playlists
  • Discovery features: nugs Radio and Roon Radio support
  • Other content types: nugs studio albums
In the meantime, you can stream any nugs show to all your zones, apply MUSE processing, and find live performances right on your favorite artists' pages.

We're excited to expand this integration based on what matters most to you. If anything important to you is missing, please let us know!

Browsing & Discovery

How can I access and browse nugs content in Roon?

  1. Shows tab: A dedicated tab alongside the Artist page Overview and Compositions

You can also search for nugs content, or browse the full nugs catalog from the dedicated nugs page in your Roon sidebar, which includes:
  • Followed Artists
  • Recently Added Shows
  • Most Popular Shows
  • Recommended Shows
  • Featured Artists
  • Browsing by Artist
  • Browsing by Year
  • Favorite Shows

When streaming nugs content, you can expect the following formats:
  • FLAC (lossless)

Export: Supported for Excel, but not for local media or CSV.

Banning: nugs show and track bans are both supported, and will result in skipped playback just like other Roon content.

Yes. Just click the refresh button in the upper left-hand corner of your Roon screen:

This will refresh your nugs account in Roon and add any new artists you’ve recently followed.

Troubleshooting

I can't sign up for the 60-day nugs trial due to a  ‘User validation failed’ error

If you are having trouble claiming the trial offer, please try the following:

  1. In your web browser, open an “incognito tab” and close your main browser
  2. Try again to redeem your 60-day trial offer, and confirm it opens in the incognito window
If that doesn’t work, try again in about 30 mins. If that doesn't help, get in touch with our Technical Support team.

I can't find nugs shows or artists in my Roon library

This is expected behavior: nugs content lives in its own area within Roon, a space designed exclusively for live shows.

Right now, nugs content is browse-only, so it can't be added to your Roon library just yet, but you can explore and stream all nugs shows right inside Roon, with deeper integration planned for the future.

How to access your nugs content:

Navigate to your Roon sidebar to find nugs. Then, choose between:
  • What's New – new and trending shows
  • Browse – explore by decade, year, or artist
  • My nugs – your favorite artists, shows, and playlists
Still can't find the content you're looking for?
First, check the nugs app directly; do you see the content there? Try adding the content as a favorite within the nugs app, then restart Roon. If that doesn't help, get in touch with our Technical Support team.

I'm seeing duplicate artists or shows

You might see the same artist, show, or live concert album from both nugs and another service (e.g., Qobuz). This is expected behavior.

Because nugs content and metadata are exclusive to their platform, Roon displays nugs data as-is, and duplicates are normal when multiple services carry the same live recording. There's no need to report nugs duplicates at this time.

I can’t add nugs shows to my Roon playlists

This feature is not yet available, but it is something our team is eager to include in a future release.

Search isn't showing expected nugs results

nugs content does appear in Roon Search results, but it shows up a bit differently than other streaming sources.

When you perform a search, scroll down past the Tracks, Composers, and Compositions sections to find the "Shows" section. This is where nugs content appears, with two tabs to help you browse:
  • Locations: Search by venue
  • Songs: Search by song performed
Info
Note: nugs content won't appear in instant search (the "search as you type" feature), but will show up once you perform your full search.
Still can't find what you're looking for?
Try checking directly in the nugs app, add the artist or show as a favorite there, then refresh Roon and search again. If it's still missing, let us know.

My nugs favorites aren't appearing in Roon

Your nugs favorites will appear in the nugs section of the Roon sidebar under “My nugs.”
If you don’t see them, try :
  1. Using the refresh button 🔄 to refresh your nugs-Roon sync
  2. Signing out and back into your nugs account in Roon Settings → Services.

If your favorites still don’t appear, open the nugs app to confirm they’re listed there, as nugs favorites are currently managed directly within the nugs app. This helps keep your live music favorites organized right where they're created.

To see your nugs favorites:

Open your Roon navigation bar → nugs → My nugs to view your favorites.

For now, we have a dedicated space for all your shows, and we're exploring deeper library integration in the future.

I'm experiencing playback or quality issues

If playback fails, try these steps:
  1. Check your nugs subscription status: navigate to Roon Settings > Services > review your nugs account sync
  2. Confirm internet connectivity
  3. Test playback via the system output of your Roon remote device
  4. If the issue persists, restart Roon and re-log into nugs
Still having issues?
Take a screenshot of any error message you see and contact Technical Support.
