What is the Playlist Improver?

Playlist Improver helps keep your playlists in shape by finding tracks that can be updated, repaired, or optimized. When you open a playlist, Roon automatically scans its contents and identifies tracks that could benefit from improvements. These improvements are only suggestions; you stay in control and can review every change before saving.

What Playlist Improver Can Do

Playlist Improver can help you:

1. Replace tracks that are no longer available
   
2. Find higher-quality versions of songs
   
3. Remove duplicate tracks
   
4. Match playlist tracks to the Primary Version already in your library
   

After scanning your playlist, Roon displays an "Improve"  button showing how many potential improvements were found.

Improvement Types

1. Unavailable Tracks: If tracks in your playlist are no longer available, Roon can search your library and connected streaming services for matching recordings. Use this option to review suggested replacements and restore playback of missing content.
   
2. Upgrade Quality: Roon identifies tracks that can be replaced with higher-quality versions. When reviewing suggestions, you can compare the current track with the proposed replacement and use the Format column to see the format of each version.
   
3. Remove Duplicates: Duplicate Tracks identifies cases where the exact same track has been added to a playlist more than once. When duplicates are found, Roon keeps the first occurrence and suggests removing any additional copies. Duplicate detection only applies to the exact same track. Different versions, remasters, or remixes are not considered duplicates.
   
4. Match To Library: Match To Library replaces playlist tracks with the Primary Version you've selected in your library. This option is useful when you want your playlists to consistently use the versions you've chosen to represent each recording.
   

Upgrade Quality and Match To Library may produce different results:

• Upgrade Quality selects the highest-quality version available, whether it comes from your library or a connected streaming service.
• Match To Library selects the Primary Version from your library, regardless of whether another version may have a higher audio quality.
  

Review Improvements

After selecting an improvement category, Roon highlights the suggested changes in your playlist.  For each suggestion, you can: 

1. Review the current track and the proposed replacement 
   
2. Select or deselect individual improvements 
   
3. Open the suggested album to view the replacement source 
   
4. Play the suggested track before applying the change 
   
5. View format information when reviewing quality upgrades 
   

As you select or deselect suggestions, Roon updates the number of improvements that will be applied. When you select an option, Roon will highlight suggestions in the playlist. Click each suggestion to toggle between Roon’s proposed improvement and what’s currently in the playlist.

You can use the menu to select or deselect all suggestions, or you can use the  and  to jump to each improvement.

​Once you’re happy with the list of selected improvements, click Save to update your playlist!
