RoonOS 3.0 Upgrade

RoonOS 3.0 Upgrade

The transition to RoonOS 3.0 includes under-the-hood improvements for your ROCK or Nucleus device aimed at enhancing system security, network reliability, and overall performance. These modernization efforts bring your device up to current industry standards, though they may require a few quick adjustments to your local setup.

After upgrading from RoonOS v2.1 to v3.0, your router may assign a new IP address to your RoonOS device. This is normal: the upgrade changes how the device identifies itself on the network, and most routers will treat it as a new device and hand out a fresh address.

If things that previously worked, like a Web UI bookmark, have stopped responding, this is likely why.

Warning
RoonOS 3.0 upgrades the file sharing stack to Samba 4, which no longer allows anonymous connections. All users will need to reconnect the Data folder and provide credentials, even if it was working without a password before.

Step 1: Find the new IP address

On any device running Roon, open Settings → General. Under the Roon Server section, you'll see your RoonOS device listed along with its current IP address. Make a note of it.

Step 2: Update your Web UI bookmark

If you have the RoonOS Web UI saved as a bookmark in your browser, update the IP address in the URL to the one you found in Step 1. The rest of the address remains the same.

Step 3: Reconnect the Data folder

On Windows

  1. Open File Explorer and right-click the mapped drive under This PC.

  2. Select Disconnect.

  3. From the Computer menu (or right-click This PC), choose Map network drive.

  4. Enter the new path: \\<new-ip-address>\Data

  5. When prompted for credentials, enter:

    • Username: guest

    • Password: guest

On Mac

  1. In Finder, press Command+K (⌘K) to open "Connect to Server".

  2. Enter the address: smb://<new-ip-address>/Data

  3. Click Connect.

  4. When prompted for credentials, select Registered User and enter:

    • Name: guest

    • Password: guest
