FAQ: Moving Your Roon License to a New Server. Authorization Flows.
When setting up Roon on a new Server, you may be prompted to move your Roon license from an existing Server to the new one. Roon provides a guided authorization experience to help you complete the switch. Since there can only be one active session at a time, when you use your email and password to log in on another server, you will be prompted to unauthorize the previous session. Doing so will allow you to use your subscription on this other server. The screen would look like this:
Before You Switch
Before moving your license, consider whether you want to preserve your Roon database, including:
If you plan to keep this data, we recommend creating a backup of your existing Roon Server and restoring it on the new Server after authorization.
Note: During the authorization process, Roon displays a "Your data in Roon" reminder dialog. Selecting "I'm all set" only dismisses the reminder. It does not move your license, disconnect any servers, or make changes to your data. No changes are made until you select Switch. Authorization Flows
Depending on your account and Server setup, you'll see one of two authorization flows.
Single-License Authorization Flow
If your license is currently associated with a single Server, Roon will display:

To move your license, select the Ready to connect Server and press "Switch to XXXX". Your license will be moved to the new server, and the previously connected Server will be disconnected.
Multiple-License Authorization Flow
If multiple servers are available on your account, you'll be asked to choose which server to disconnect before authorizing the new server.
- Under "Choose a device to disconnect", select the Server you want to disactivate.
- Verify the Server listed under "Your new server"
- Press Switch. The selected server will be disconnected, and the new server will become your active Roon Server.
This process should be quick and only take a couple of minutes at most.
