When you add a Watched Folder, Roon opens its folder browser so you can navigate to where your music lives. This article explains how to find and select your existing music folder in that browser, and what the New folder button actually does.

The Folder Browser at a Glance

Open Settings, then Storage, then click + Add folder. The Choose music storage folder browser opens. It has three parts:

• The left pane lists the storage Roon Server can see: drives attached to the server machine, and any network shares you've added.
• The Folder listing on the right shows the folders inside whatever you've selected on the left.
• The Selected folder breadcrumb at the top shows where you are right now.

Finding Your Existing Music Folder

1. In the left pane, select the drive or share where your music is stored.
2. In the Folder listing, click a folder to open it and see the folders inside.
3. To go back up a level, click the up arrow at the top right of the Folder listing. To reload the listing, click the refresh arrow beside it.
4. When the Selected folder breadcrumb shows the folder you want Roon to watch, click Select this folder.

Roon watches everything inside the folder you select, including its subfolders. You don't need to drill into the deepest folder; select the top-level music folder instead.

What the New Folder Button Does

New folder creates a new, empty folder inside your current location. Clicking it asks for one thing only: a name ("Please enter the name of the folder you wish to create"). It doesn't open a folder, it doesn't accept a path, and it won't help you navigate to music you already have. To add an existing music folder, browse to it and click Select this folder as described above.

New folder is useful when you want a fresh destination for music, for example, creating a Music folder on your Nucleus's internal drive before copying files to it over your network. For that workflow, see Nucleus internal storage.

If Your Folder Isn't Listed

• The drive isn't attached to the server machine. The browser shows storage as Roon Server sees it, not as your remote device sees it. Music on another computer or a NAS must be added as a network share; see Adding Local Music to Roon.
• You just plugged the drive in. Click the refresh arrow in the Folder listing.
