Nucleus Titan has a bay for one 2.5" SATA SSD, so you can store your music inside it. This guide shows you how to install the drive, then format it in the Nucleus Web Administration Interface so Roon can use it.

Important Considerations

Opening your Nucleus Titan affects your warranty. Please review your warranty terms before you begin.

• Install an empty drive. RoonOS formats the drive after installation, which erases everything on it. Please don't pre-format the drive or load music onto it first.
• Work on a clean, soft surface. You'll be turning your Nucleus Titan upside down to reach the bottom lid.
• The steps below use RoonOS 3.0. If your Nucleus Titan isn't on RoonOS 3.0 yet, its Web Administration Interface is a single page. Please see Using the Original Web UI and Formatting on Nucleus and Nucleus+ for where to find each control.

Prerequisites

• A 2.5" SATA SSD with a height of up to 15mm and a capacity of up to 8TB. For full specifications, please see the Nucleus Titan product page.
• A small screwdriver.
• The SSD mounting screws, which come pre-installed on the side of the storage tray inside your Nucleus Titan.
• The Roon app or a web browser on the same network, to format the drive after installation.

Before You Begin

Please shut down your Nucleus Titan safely before you open it:

1. Open the Nucleus Web Administration Interface.
2. On the Overview tab, click Stop in the Roon Server row.
3. Open the Power menu (the red power button in the top right corner) and choose Power Off.
4. When your Nucleus Titan has shut down, unplug the power cable and the Ethernet cable.

Install the Drive

Step 1: Remove the bottom lid

1. Turn your Nucleus Titan upside down so the bottom lid faces up.
2. Remove the 6 screws circled in red.
3. Lift off the bottom lid. The storage tray sits above the main board.

Step 2: Remove the storage tray screws

1. Remove the 4 screws at the corners of the storage tray, circled in red.
2. Note the SSD mounting screws on the side of the tray, boxed in red. You'll use them in Step 4.

Step 3: Lift out the storage tray

1. Gently move the drive cable aside. If you're replacing a drive, disconnect the cable from the old drive first.
2. Lift the storage tray out of your Nucleus Titan.

Step 4: Attach the SSD to the tray

1. Align the SSD with the tray so the screw holes on the side of the SSD line up with the holes on the tray.
2. Insert the mounting screws through the side of the tray into the SSD, and tighten them.

Step 5: Reinstall the tray

1. Place the tray, with the SSD attached, back in its position.
2. Secure it with the 4 corner screws you removed in Step 2.

Step 6: Connect the drive cable

1. Line up the drive cable's connector with the connector on the SSD.
2. Press it in gently until it snaps into place.

Step 7: Replace the bottom lid

1. Place the bottom lid back on your Nucleus Titan.
2. Secure it with the 6 screws you removed in Step 1.
3. Turn your Nucleus Titan right side up, then reconnect the Ethernet cable and the power cable.

Format the Drive

Once your Nucleus Titan is back on, RoonOS must format the new drive before you can use it.

1. Power on your Nucleus Titan and wait for it to reconnect to your network.
2. Open the Nucleus Web Administration Interface. In Roon, go to Settings > Setup, click Find next to Find Roon OS, then click your Nucleus Titan's IP address. You can also enter http://nucleustitan, http://nucleustitan.local, or its IP address in a web browser.
3. Click the Storage tab.
4. Find Internal Music Storage. The drive you installed is listed here. Until it's formatted, it shows Unavailable.

Formatting permanently erases everything on the drive, and it can't be undone.

5. Click Format.
6. In the Format Internal Storage? window, click Format again to confirm. A progress bar shows while the drive formats. This can take several minutes, depending on the drive's size and speed. Roon stops while the drive formats, so you can't play music until it finishes.
7. When a Success message appears, click OK. The card shows Ready, along with the drive's capacity, model, and a usage bar.

If Internal Music Storage doesn't appear on the Storage tab, your drive hasn't been detected. Please power down and unplug your Nucleus Titan, then check that the drive cable is firmly connected to the SSD.
