Updating

Roon is always improving, so it's important to keep all your devices updated.

This will ensure you have access to the latest features and improvements, whether you're running Roon, RoonServer, or the Roon app (mobile). Updates are always free of charge for our subscribers, and it's easy to get the latest updates, even with multiple devices spread across your network.

Updating Roon & Roon Server

Updating Roon & Roon Server can be done from any remote device connected to Roon. To do so, go to Settings -> About.  Any updates that are available will be listed for the device for which they are available.  If the update has already been downloaded, you will be prompted to re-launch. If no updates are needed, you will see the message "You have the latest version installed":

Updating the Roon app on mobile

On mobile platforms, the Roon app is updated just like any other app. Head to the App Store or Google Play Store to update to the latest version. We recommend setting your devices to auto-update Roon to ensure that you are always on the latest version.

It is important to mention that there might be slight delays in the availability of the update for the Roon app for both iOS and Android devices. While the Roon app update is released at the same time as the Roon software update, app store availability is dependent on your region, and sometimes there are regions that get delayed.

Warning
We strongly recommend updating your iOS and Android devices BEFORE accepting the update on your Roon Server.

Update Settings

There are three different options for updating settings.
Notes
Note that these options do not appear on mobile remotes.
  1. Automatically install all updates (Recommended)Choosing Automatically install all updates will set Roon to download any and all updates that become available. This is the best way to ensure that you are always on the latest version of Roon and have the quickest access to new improvements and features. Once the update is installed, you will be prompted to re-launch the application.
  2. Automatically install bugfix and other minor updatesChoosing this option will automatically install any minor maintenance releases that become available. You will be asked before downloading any major updates, which generally include new functionality or major changes.
  3. Ask before downloading any updatesWith this option, Roon will not automatically download any updates. When a new update is available, we will display a notification that will allow you to update if you so choose.

Alert
For a number of reasons, downgrading Roon is not supported.
