ROCK: RoonOS Web Administration Interface










What is the Web Administration Interface

The RoonOS Web Administration Interface (or webUI) is a built-in control panel, accessible from any web browser on your network, that lets you manage your ROCK device at the system level. It works independently of the Roon app, so you can use it even when Roon isn't running or can't connect.

Accessing the Web Administration Interface 

From the Roon App

  1. Make sure your Roon OS device is on and connected to your network
  2. Open Roon on any platform (Mac, Windows, Android, or iOS)
  3. Click Configure Roon OS Devices 



From a Desktop and Tablet

In Settings, on the Setup Tab, go to Find Roon OS->Find

   

From a Mobile Device


Or you can get to Web UI from Settings, on the Setup Tab select Find Roon OS and click on Find. You will then see a screen showing the network address of your Roon OS device. The IP address under Roon Optimizes Core Kit is a link. Click or press it, and your web browser will open up the web administration tool. 

Other ways of accessing the Web Interface:

You can also navigate directly to your device by entering one of the following in a web browser:

  1. The IP address: for example, http://10.0.101.20/
  2. The .local suffix: http://rock.local
  3. The hostname: http://rock

Notes
Hostnames like http://rock do not work on all networks depending on your router's DNS configuration. If the hostname doesn't load, use the IP address instead.

Using the Web Administration Interface

The Web Administration Interface gives you access to system-level controls for your ROCK device, independent of the Roon app. From here you can perform the following actions:






  1. Reboot or power off: the red button at the top right can be used to reboot or power off the Server
  2. Confirm your device's Serial Number
  3. Reinstall RoonOS and RoonServer:  the Reinstall button under the Operating System section will always reinstall the latest firmware available for the ROCK, even if you are already running the latest one. This operation can take several minutes depending on your internet connection.  
    4. InfoReinstalling the software will not affect your settings or your Roon Database. 

  4. Stop and Restart RoonServer: The drop-down button under the Roon Server Software section allows you stop/start or restart your server. Stopping Roon Server can be useful before doing a large import. 
  5. Reset all Settings / Databases: Resetting all server settings, Roon settings, and your Roon database will restore the ROCK back to "factory defaults". 
    6. WarningWarning: This is permanent and will erase your Roon database. This will not make any changes to your server's internal storage. 
  6.  Format internal storage: if you install a hard disk drive (HDD) or solid state drive (SSD) in your ROCK for music stoage, the drive must be formatted by Roon OS before it can be used, by clicking the "Format" button. More information on internal storage can be found here.
  7. Tailscale is an app that creates a private, secure connection between your phone and your Roon Server, making it easier to stay connected even when you're away from home. If you've been having trouble with ARC due to your internet provider or home network, Tailscale could be a great solution. Learn more here.
  8. Setting a static IP address: like most networked devices, the ROCK defaults to DHCP for its network interface configuration. It is not generally required (or recommended) to use a static IP; however, when this action is required, please, follow the steps below
    1. To configure the interface manually, change the IP Address Setup to Static IP, then manually enter IP Address, Netmask, Gateway, and DNS Server.
    AlertNote: Incorrect static IP settings could render your Server unreachable on your network. A thorough understanding of networking principles and familiarity with the host network are strongly recommended if you intend to configure your network interface manually. 
    1. If you accidentally enter an incorrect static IP and your machine becomes unreachable, using a second network interface will help reconnect the device as it will be configured by default to use DHCP. Press "Save" when you are done.

    If you use a USB network adapter with ROCK, it will populate itself with a second network interface. This second interface will appear as a new tab under the Networking section and can be configured the same way as the onboard gigabit ethernet port.
